**Trondheim, one of Norway’s windiest municipalities, recently enlisted the help of NablaFlow to investigate the possibility of extending the use of Granåsen Ski Centre to also include a big jump to facilitate freestyle skiing and snowboarding Big Air events.**

Located in Trondheim, Granåsen Ski Centre is known for hosting World Cup and Continental Cup ski jumping competitions as well as world-class biathlon and cross-country skiing competitions. The Centre has one normal-sized hill (K-90) and one large hill (K-124). The proposed plan would require the removal of parts of the existing forest and reshaping of the terrain to form the big jump and necessary landing and entry area.
However, the modification to the surrounding area of the ski jumping facilities could  affect the wind conditions, potentially worsening the conditions for the jumpers. Therefore, Trondheim kommune wanted to be informed on the likelihood and extent of the possible implications.

NablaFlow conducted a CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) investigation of the impact of the proposed modification to the forest and terrain on the wind velocities and turbulence at the ski jumping facility. The firm used their ArchiWind tool and developed and applied some project-specific extensions to their fully automated platform to include the modeling of the effect of the forest on the wind conditions.
Simulation results showed that the big air jump would affect the local wind conditions around the big air jump but not notably in the ski jumping arena. The information obtained from the simulations allowed Trondheim kommune to make an informed decision on implementing the proposed plan. It also ensured satisfactory similar wind conditions at the ski jumping arena after implementing the modification to the forest and terrain neighboring the ski jump arena compared to before the project.

In conclusion, the study undertaken by NablaFlow for Trondheim kommune allowed for a thorough investigation into the potential effects of extending the use of Granåsen Ski Centre while ensuring the preservation of satisfactory wind conditions for ski jumping competitions.

Investigating the Possibility of a Big Jump for Freestyle 

**Recently, DARK Architects and MaPlan announced plans to begin the process of regulating Arne Rettedals gate 12, located in Stavanger, on behalf of the local developers. The proposed development includes the construction of two additional floors for office use and an update to the current regulation plan, which dates back to 1972 and lacks specific provisions.**

As with any new development, it’s important to consider the potential impact on the surrounding area and the people who will be using it. One important factor to consider is the urban wind situation. Wind patterns within cities can be affected by the way buildings are arranged and the materials they are made of. This can have a significant impact on the comfort of pedestrians and the overall user experience of the area. By conducting a wind study, we can better understand how the proposed development will affect the urban wind situation.

At Nablaflow, we specialize in wind studies and have conducted a wind study over the area including the proposed new building model as well as the nearby high-rise currently under construction. Will a new restructuring of the building have a positive impact on the urban wind situation? New structures can potentially reduce the wind speeds at pedestrian level, aspect that needs to be considered when planning on changing the height or the exposed surface of buildings.

Assessing the Impact of the restructured design in Stavanger

When designing new waterfront structures, it’s important to consider the impact of wind on pedestrian comfort. That’s why Stafr, the project managers for the new project Pynteneset, enlisted the help of NablaFlow to conduct a wind study on their new residential area in Stavanger.

Nablaflow used their software-as-a-service tool, Archiwind, to run a complete wind study on the area. Archiwind is an almost fully automated, versatile, and easy-to-use tool that allows for cost-cutting in wind studies like this one.
The report generated from the tool also provides the necessary documentation required by the municipality in addition to the powerful results page with great visualisations.

The results of the study will be used to inform the designers of the new residential area in its development stage. Further wind studies may be conducted in the future before new construction stages begin.

Overall, the wind study conducted by Nablaflow will ensure that the new waterfront structures in Stavanger are designed with pedestrian comfort in mind. The use of Archiwind allows for efficient and accurate analysis of the wind conditions in the area,
making it an invaluable tool in projects like this one.

Når det prosjekteres nye utbyggingsprosjekter, er det viktig å ta hensyn til hvorledes
vind påvirker komforten til brukere av området. Dette er grunnen til at Stafr, utbyggers
prosjektledere for Pynteneset prosjektet, benyttet NablaFlow for å utføre en vindanalyse for den nye boligutbyggingen sin på Engøy i Stavanger.

NablaFlow benyttet programvaren sin Archiwind for å gjøre en komplett vindanalyse av utbyggingsområdet, med hensyn på omkringliggende arealer og bebyggelse. Archiwind er et nesten fullautomatisert, fleksibelt og brukervennlig verktøy som bidrar til kostnadsreduksjon i forbindelse med utarbeidelsen av slike analyser.
Rapporten som genereres gir det nødvendige underlaget som kreves fra plan og bygg,
samtidig som resultatsiden er et visuelt sterkt og lettfattelig verktøy for alle prosjekterende involvert i prosjektet.

Resultatene fra en slik analyse bidrar til å optimalisere prosjektet med tanke på komforten for fremtidige brukere som enten bor i prosjektet eller besøker dette vakre kystområdet. 

Da dette er en trinnvis utbygging, vil det også gjennomføres analyser for de resterende trinnene etter hvert som de nærmer seg utførelse. Takket være Archiwind er det nå både raskt og rimelig å utføre slike analyser, noe som igjen resulterer i mer bærekraftig utvikling av våre byer og nabolag.
