Site Location Now Set Once per Project
Set a site's coordinates once per project. Every new simulation uses them automatically.
What’s new
You now set a site’s coordinates once, when you create the project, instead of on every new simulation. Each new simulation in that project automatically uses the project’s location, which appears on the simulation form as read-only text. You can also create projects that aren’t tied to a location at all.
Why it matters
A project usually covers one site. Entering coordinates on every simulation meant extra steps and a real risk: one mistyped digit could move a simulation to a different place, with different wind statistics and terrain, and nothing flagged it. With the location fixed at project level, every simulation in a project is guaranteed to run on the same site, so comparing design options means comparing like with like.
How it works
- New projects: choose whether the project is geolocated. If it is, enter its coordinates (and, under Advanced settings, the coordinate reference system). ArchiWind then fetches wind statistics and terrain roughness for that location as before.
- New simulations: the location is shown on the form, not edited there. Every simulation inherits it.
- Changing the location: you can edit a project’s coordinates while it has no simulations. After the first simulation, the location is locked, so results in the same project stay comparable. For a different site, create a new project.
- Projects without a location: for test cases, concept studies or sites where you bring your own wind data, create a non-geolocated project. You then upload your wind statistics and set the terrain roughness for each wind sector yourself.
What this means for your existing projects
We copied the coordinates up to the project wherever all its simulations already shared the same location. Nothing changes for you there.
If a project held simulations at different locations, it now has no project coordinates. The next time you start a simulation in it, ArchiWind asks you to Add project coordinates first. Your existing simulations and their results are untouched. If those simulations belong to different sites, we recommend one project per site.
For API and Revit plugin users
Coordinates now belong to the project. When you create a simulation through the API, the coordinates must match the project’s coordinates, or the request is rejected. A project with no coordinates must be given coordinates (or set as non-geolocated) before new simulations can be created in it. The coordinates field on the simulation is deprecated. See the updated API documentation [LINK].
Get started
Create a new project and set its location in the first step. Every simulation you add afterwards uses it automatically. Full details are in the documentation [LINK].
